İngilizce ''Matter'' Kapsamlı Kullanım Kılavuzu..

''Matter'' kavramının İngilizce'de kendine yer bulduğu kullanımları ele almaya kalksak makaleler, tezler yazmak üzerinde epey zaman harcamak icab eder. Gelin bu yayınımızda öyle yapalım..

Sözlükleri karıştırdığımızda yüzeysel olarak ''önemli olmak'', ''mesele'' ,''konu'' ''cisim'' gibi meallar ile karşılaşırız. Ancak mesele bu kadarından ibaret değil.

- This matter doesn't concern you.
- Bu mesele seninle igili değil.

- What is your opinion on this matter?
- Bu konuda senin düşüncen nedir?

It doesn't matter: İlgilenmiyorum, önemli değil, farketmez.

- It doesn't matter why.
- Neden olduğu önemli değil.

- The price doesn't matter.
- It doesn't matter what he said.
- It doesn't matter what I do.
- It doesn't matter how small it is.
- It doesn't matter to me if you take this book.
- It doesn't matter who says that, it's not true.
- It really doesn't matter to me.

A matter of time/hours/time etc : Bir zaman ifadesiyle kullandığımızda ''bir kaç'' anlamı taşır. Süre olarak az bir zamanı kastediyoruzdur. Bir şeyin olması ''an meselesi'' diyebiliriz.

- Dımdızlak kalman an meselesi.

- It's just a matter of time before Tom gets into trouble again.
- It’ll only be a matter of hours before he gets back

As a matter of course: elbette ki, haliyle, gayet tabii, doğal olarak, vazife gereği gibi anlamlar taşır.

- As a matter of course, you must complete your final project in order to receive a passing grade.
- Geçer not almak için doğal olarak final projeni tamamlamalısın.

- I lock my car doors as a matter of course whenever I get out of my car

Be a matter of opinion: Türkçe'den bildiğimiz ''herkesin düşüncesi farklıdır'', '' tabi kişiden kişiye değişir'' ifadelerinin ruh ikizidir.

- She’s a great singer. That’s a matter of opinion.
- O Harika bir şarkıcı. Tabi bu benim düşüncem (başkası katılmayabilir)

- I know it's a matter of opinion, but I think that living in the city is more enjoyable than living in the suburbs.
- Biliyorum (herkesin düşüncesi farklıdır) ama şehirde yaşamak bana göre kenar mahallelerde yaşamaktan daha keyif verici.

Be another matter: ''Orası ayrı konu'', ''Ayrı mesele'' dersek yanlış söylemiş olmayız.

Grey matter: Zeka, akıl, beyin gücü manasındadır.

A matter of life and death: Ölüm kalım meselesi!

Mind over matter: İrade, akıl gücüyle fiziksel sorunların, rahatsızlıkların üstesinden gelmek. İnanç meselesi, kafada halletmek gibi..

- Çok hastayken nasıl çalışıyor?  - İrade işi.

The matter at hand: Önceliği olan veya halihazırda tartışılan konu mesele vazife herhangi bir şey olabilir.
